That's a very overused and misused line on CB, that he was
constantly bailed out. He made them look good as much as they did him. That's how it works. Some people act like BYU 2015 is the only place receivers ever helped a QB look better. It's no different than anywhere else. He trusted his guys, threw great balls, and they rewarded him by making a play on it. It gets old hearing they bailed him out, or that whole "50/50" ball thing. That's crazy. I swear sometimes people were just set against him because the beloved Hill went down.

Also, he already did spend much of his freshman year running, so that's nothing new, and he still went for 3400 yds. And this OL will be much better than that 2015 OL. And now he doesn't have to scramble around with a bad hamstring. He's quite good on the move anyway. I hope they roll him out quite a bit.

We also can't say he doesn't have the receiving corps to help. I'm sure a lot of people didn't think Blackmon would be what he was after his first year. Add a solid QB who is accurate, trusts his guys to make a play, goes through reads, looks for them, throws guys open, timing, etc. and you'll see them be just fine.

For the first time in like 3 years we've got an entire off season with the starting QB healthy and spending it with his guys as the leader, developing chemistry. It is these little things that are very underappreciated and underrated. When you add it all up, it's the difference between great and mediocre.

We also get to see TEs and RBs become a featured part of the game like they used to be. Remember, 2015 was an outlier with a deep receiving corps. BYU never had that. Look back at those years with 3500-4000 yds. There were usually 2 receivers or so, and a huge chunk of it was TEs and RBs in the passing game. This offense doesn't need to be 4+ deep at WR.

But again, you're looking for media and coaching praise, well, Simon has had plenty the last two spring camps. And we know Trinnaman is solid. He catches most everything even in tight traffic, and give him a QB who can actually hit him, we'll see what he can do to stretch the field.

Everyone always wants bright shiny evidence, but sometimes you have to add up all of the little things that factor into chemistry among different units and success as a whole. The pieces are there. They just need to get all of the little things clicking. And now they don't have to learn a new offense. You want to get your hopes up for the offense? Go listen to Detmer throughout this year.
