I don't know if you like to backpack, but IMO that's the way to do Yosemite.
The National Park Service limits thei number of people on the wilderness trails which is a blessing because you don't encounter too many people. If you stay in Yosemite Valley, it's like being in Disneyland. We backpacked from Tammarack Flats past El Capitan to Yosemite Creek and then down the Falls trail to the Valley. The most impressive view was from on top of El Capitan. The cabin rentals are hard to get, and you have to make a reservation about a year out.
