The permits are for camping or backpacking. Most people
drive in for the day and leave the same day. Everyone has to pay a $30 entrance fee for the day. Or you can buy an annual pass for $60 dollars. They also have an annual pass for all national parks that is $80 which is the best value if you are going to see a lot of national parks in one year.
