Yosemite Valley gets extremely crowded in the summer, so backpacking is the way to go.

I don't know if you like to backpack, but IMO that's the way to do Yosemite.

We've got 3-4 families all with kids 10 and under, so we won't be doing tents.

Agreed, very different experiences in each park. I couldn't say one is better than the other

I think Yoesmite is better but the crowds make it worse.
