As someone else in this thread mentioned, one of the great myths is the common belief that everyone who suffers from a mental health problem will suffer from it for the rest of their life. Sometimes a person can suffer a trauma and require therapy and/or medication in order to be able to do the things you listed. In a case like that, the therapy and medicine help them get back on their feet and they can discontinue both.
I'm not saying that's always true and some people get into trouble by discontinuing medication that they should not stop taking simply because they feel good.
