The biggest difference is an 18 ACT athlete isn't going to compete well
with the 29.5 average ACT at BYU. They'd be a fish out of water and won't be able to keep up academically without dramatic improvements to study skills.
On the other hand, the 18 ACT Utah athlete can fit right into the 25th percentile 21 ACT students without dramatically more effort. You can put the athlete on the easy track in classes that most of the athletes take.
