So the cupboard for our coaching staff was bare because "In 2015, exactly 4 of 56 TDs came from players currently on our roster - 2 rushing from Hoge (who is now injured) and 2 rushing from Mangum. ZERO TDs came from receivers/RBs currently on our active roster.
Does this guy know that college football players have 4 years of eligibility?
Did he think to check if this stat means what he thinks it does?
Look at Utah. They currently also have exactly two players who scored in 2015 (neither have scored this year) so Whit really has a bare cupboard.
Lets look at OSU. They also have two players on their roster who scored in 2015
How about a better comp like Stanford. They have lots of guys stick around for that 4 year degree. Wow, they also have just 2 offensive players who scored TD's two years ago.
Conclusion: One of the more nonsensical conclusions from data that I have ever seen, and a lot of CB's lapped it up if it supported their view. Now I don't think BYU has had the type of talent that it takes to be a top 20 team for some time, but to say that the cupboard was left bare because we don't have a lot of guys scoring TD'S this year who also scored two years ago is kinda silly. It's that way most places.
