also: linemen downfield rule has to do with letting the defense know its a run
or pass play.
in a passing play linemen can't go downfield. if the secondary sees linemen downfield they know its a run and they can leave their reciever and go tackle the ballcarrier. unfair if the offense lets a lineman downfield and then throws it. which happens. happens a lot on screen plays.
