Example:  a short really crappy book is going to have way less time for me to build up my hate against it than a long really crappy book.  Obviously.

We're talking subjective opinions here.  A book that's an easy read is by definition a better book than a book that's a slog, all other things being equal.  I don't understand the confusion.
