Sometimes you can add by subtracting...
And it doesn’t mean the departed players weren’t good. The brand of bball we’re playing now is similar to the style that BYU played earlier in Rose’s tenure when we were competing for MWC titles every year.

I think Emery’s taking the year off was a blessing in disguise for this team in allowing it time to develop this new attitude. That might have struggled with Emery competing for shots and attention on offense. I didn’t get to watch the New Mexico game but I did watch the B/W tipoff and despite the efforts of the rest of the team to slow the pace and make extra passes, he was the same old Nick, launching off-balance long range shots from bad locations on the floor, much to the chagrin of Coach Schroyer (who could be seen visibly throwing his arms up in the air each time Nick played the hero).

Old habits are hard for some guys to break and that may be the case for Nick trying to fit in with the new scheme on offense. He would be a really good fit at Utah Valley imo but if he stays and graduates from BYU he likely won’t duplicate his scoring numbers from his freshman year. In most rotations he would likely be the 4th option on offense (behind Bryant, Childs, and Haws)

Haws as you pointed out is doing a good job I think of adapting to the new style of play and finding ways to contribute when he’s not on his game. He will continue to get better as the year progresses imo.
