Certainly lacrosse is more popular in the NE than other parts of the U.S. but

no way it is more popular than football. I would bet that Notre Dame football has more fans in the northeast than all college lacrosse programs combined. Lacrosse might be the most popular sport at a handful of preppy private high schools, but in terms of national branding no way lacrosse is even close to football in any part of the country, including the northeast.
