I shifted gears about five years ago to just viewing BYU sports as a diversion
And that it’s a vehicle for young men and women to become leaders in our communities and churches. I’ve had season tickets for football for 10+ years with my dad despite me living to Texas (dad lives in Utah) and making one or two home games a year. I give to CC monthly (something incremental; not significant) because I view BYU Athletics to be a critical vehicle for these young men and women as I mentioned. I certainly want them to succeed; however, I don’t get hung up in the losses like I used to. There are plenty of stakeholders that recognize the vitality of an AD is generally being successful.

Since shifting my view of BYU Athletics, I’ve also accepted that the school is what it is in the modern collegiate athletics world of corruption and business. BYU will make a splash here and there, will do it’s best (usually) at representing well, but it’ll be very difficult, if not possible altogether, to compete in football and men’s basketball on a national level. There’s too much corruption in recruiting. There’s too much competing funds at other universities being plowed into coaching staffs. There’s too much political winds shifting to marginalize religious schools.

I think the day will come where BYU doesn’t have athletics anymore due to that last point. At least not on the scale that we have today.

I’m just enjoying being local in Utah now, attending as a family any games we can go see live. It’s a great product for the price (aside from football season which was still fun to get out and be at the stadium). I guess you could call where I’m at is ambivalence but with a strong desire to support the athletes. I only reserve the right to be frustrated if I’m a paying attendee and I see a lack of effort (a la UMass game).

Anyway, that’s my drivel before going to church... go cougars!
