We have been over-hyped every year for quite a few years now. Part of the blame for that is the media, who are telling us what we want to hear, but part of it is on us fans, because we gobble the hyperbole up. The media knows what generates interest, so they continue to churn it out.

As this cycle begins again with spring ball, instead of just accepting what we're told by the bigger name media members, how about we go to practices and make our own assessments. Also, and it hurts me to say it, because they work hard to cover BYU, but perhaps take anything that guys like Criddle, Harper, McCann, Shep etc say with a heavy grain of salt. They work hard, but they're also huge BYU fans and not just media members, so their evaluation is always going to be rosier than people who can view things through an objective lens.
