Duke Silver All-American
I’ve become an extremely casual BYU basketball fan, one who usually checks the
final scores of games but I don’t attend any games and only end up watching one on tv here and there.

My football fandom definitely took a hit last season, a hard hit. Where other schools have the ability to bounce back and recovery from seasons like this, BYU has too many disadvantages (non P5, honor code, lower coaches salaries, living in Utah/being a private church school, etc.).

I know many BYU fans like to think BYU is a few plays away from being at Utah’s level, but they’ve surpassed BYU in every possible way and the divide will only worsen as the P5 further separates themselves from the field. I’ve become a more casual fan as well and don’t allow myself to get caught up in hype anymore. It’s overall much better for my personal health, I went through times in my early twenties when I’d take losses very hard (especially to Utah). I’m happier now and just enjoy BYU for who they are, not for who I wish they were.
