I think with the program struggling for things to feel good about this is a sign that fans were hoping for something big to give them some excitement heading into this next season instead of just another "a rising tide lifts all boats" type of assistant coaching move. It's not just basketball that has suffered with bad assistant coaching decisions but it's been football too. Problem is it becomes an accumulative effect on fans. After having been burned by a number of these, fans think, "Here's another former player with little to no coaching experience getting a very coveted D-1 assistant coaching opportunity."
