In movies and TV shows, a common plot point involves parents paying for their

children's college tuition. It is something that has never resonated with me because my parents never said, insinuated, implied, or otherwise gave any kind of indication that they'd help pay for college. Are my parents horrible parents, or has Hollywood set unrealistic expectations for what parents should pay for?
