Detmer was wrong. And it once again does show that I believe Holmoe should have resigned or been asked to resign for pushing the Detmer to coach idea. Detmer is to blame for accepting it, but it shouldn't have been an idea at all. Detmer wasn't ready... he's still not ready... you don't take your untouchable Heisman trophy winning QB and put him in a position in which you potentially will need to fire him... you especially don't do it if he has zero experience in coaching at any college level. And you certainly don't put him on a coaching staff in which most of the staff is incredibly inexperienced at the coaching positions they have.
BYU is unique in that we require our head coach to be LDS... this requires us to take someone of less experience or less qualified... you don't double down on that and put aside him someone even more unqualified and less experienced... it's a recipe for absolute disaster... and we saw the results.
Holmoe has done a great job lately of absolutely blowing up a lot of things... as bad as the missed opportunity on the BIGXII was, which I believe wasn't entirely just his fault... this certainly was all of Holmoe's fault and there should be more consequences than just Detmer being let go because of it.
