Position coaches should be judged based on how much they move the needle. And it shouldn’t be based on one player, either. If multiple walk-ons turn into strong contributors, the position coach should get credit. If multiple guys with a lot of physical talent and no major injuries never develop, the coach should be criticized.
The other thing you should look at is now much players improve over time with the same coach. Mitch Mathews, Devon Blackmon, Terenn Houk, and Mitch Juergens all got quite a bit better from 2013 to 2015. Holliday should get some credit for that.
