Anae didn’t think he was worth a scholly. That’s the honest answer.
All the other dumb reasons being thrown around here are just sour grapes. He wanted BYU to offer. He was a BYU fan. He didn’t like the way his brother or relative was treated while at BYU (the Covey that transferred). But wasn’t his main issue. Anae told him he was only worth a walk-on spot at best and would probably never see the field. Whittingham took a different angle. He told Covey specific roles in the offensive scheme and special teams at Utah where he’d play a major part. KW and the Utah coaches had a specific vision for Covey’s skill set at Utah and they were right.
