At another top tier university, they made the Rugby team a varsity sport
To check continue to reinforce success.
At West Point, my Alma Mater, the rugby team was a club sport for years. The Army rugby team would usually make it to the final 4 or sweet 16 pretty much every year. A few years ago, West Point decided to pull it into the athletic department (from the club ranks). Of course there was a massive $ donation to support it, but they decided to reinforce success. Not run from it. I’ve said this for some time. BYU sports are in trouble at the current pace of UVU programs.
