Of course others have had different experiences and noticed different things.

I used to have season tickets to both. This might be unpopular opinion, but Utah fans were there to socialize more. A lot more drinking (cue the deniers), a lot more tailgating, a lot more goofing off and light conversation. They had more fun, in the sense that they were socializing more, like it is when you attend a high school game.

BYU fans are much more introverted, in general. The fans will go in tighter family or friend units, and keep to their own group. Definitely more families in LES.

Both fan bases are about the same when it comes to getting upset at refs and understanding rules. Ute games have more vulgarity, but BYU fans make up for it with more whining. I think this is because BYU fans watch the game more closely and are more into the game. As I said, Utah fans are socializing more and might miss a play here and there.

Both teams care equally about the games results. Both fan bases are clueless in post-game call-in shows.

BYU’s stadium can get louder on the whole in a big game or important moment. But Utah’s north stands—where the bleachers are connected in a bowl—can get LOUD and intimidating and it feels like they are closer to the field. All the more impressive that beck to harline was on the north side.

All told, I’m an introvert and a BYU fan, so naturally I prefer going to BYU games. I think BYU games are more family friendly, though Utah fans are not that bad.

If you want vulgarity, go to UNLV or Wyoming. Cowpoke fans put vulgar t-shirts on their infant kids. UNLV fans were just scum of hades that went to personally cuss out Mormonism with the crudest possible language (to the point that my UNLV fan brother who is a Mormon in only the most technical sense couldn’t take it any longer and shouted down the scum by proclaiming himself a Mormon and telling them to scram).

At any rate, if I were neutral I’d go to a BYU game for family friendly atmosphere. Go to Utah game if you want to be jovial with strangers.
