I am probably one of the few BYU and USC fans. I am a USC fan because I live in LA but am a BYU alumni. A few years ago, I attended one of the first P12 conference USC games at RES. As mobo stated, there was a lot more tailgating at the Utah game than I had ever seen at a a BYU game but on a smaller scale than at home USC games. My USC friend noted that there was more drinking and less barbecuing than a USC home game. Students were stacking beer cans vertically as if to show how much they had consumed. It seemed as if they were displaying the beer cans as badges of honor but maybe that was just my LDS side coming out.

USC got down early and my friend was discouraged and and quiet. When USC finally pulled ahead, my friend turned around and taunted the Utah fans. I told him to calm down and enjoy the lead. Even with his taunting, the Utah fans were cordial to us. Note, we were sitting in the more expensive, old people section so perhaps it would have been different near the student section. My friend also stated that perhaps the fan treatment will be different in a few years when Utah has played USC a number of times.

The only negative experience was when I used the restroom at half time. There were lines 10 deep for each urinal. When I got to the front, some fan in the back yelled, "push that USC fan into the urinal". People laughed and I just smiled, hoping no one would follow through with the suggestion. I told my USC friend about the hazing and he replied, "you should have pulled off your USC shirt and revealed your BYU shirt".
