Mmmmm k. When you say that _____ player doesn’t have to perform in accordance
with common measuring sticks used to evaluate his position (in this case: QBR, pass completion percentage, YPA, TD/Turnover ratio) because the offense is special and requires him to only be a “game manager”, or whatever euphemism you prefer, you are effectively saying he is above reproach. And after the next loss you, along with everyone else currently saying such things, will be calling for a replacement at QB.

To be clear my position on Tanner hasn’t really changed much in the last year or two: I think he will probably do just enough to give us a chance to win (except against Cal when his INTs were the difference in the game) but he himself is not going to go out and win any games for us. And he generally receives little help from his WRs. I feel the coaches know more about it than I do so I trust them to play who they feel gives us the best chance to win, but that doesn’t mean I drink the koolaid and pretend that Tanner is secretly, deep down, a really good QB even though it doesn’t show up in any meaningful statistical category.
