The problem isn't the millennials - The problem is the adults
who are allowing them to be more self-centered and entitled.

I've been doing some focus groups with students (both late high school and college) and teachers (high school and college) the last few months. I've got about 6 under my belt and will be doing about 6 more before Christmas.

the main question is how can we improve our educational system.

The students go on and on about how they don't want to read textbooks, books, or research articles. They don't wan't assignment deadlines. They don't want to do group work. They want to be able to do the work at their own pace on their own schedule. They are too busy for school (even High school students have been saying that).

I bring the students comments to the teachers as part of their focus group. Right away their conversations switches to how can they make education easier for their students. How they can use youtube or movies instead of books, how they can end deadlines or allow late work without penalty, how they can reduce the amount of load in their classes.

It's been interesting. But here is my point - I'm sure if my or your generation of students were asked the same questions we would give similar answers. But back then the adults would have said "whatever, I don't care if you like it or not you are going to read the book or research article. Youtube is for your own time. Deadlines are deadlines and you better have it in on time. I'm not reducing the workload so you can post your face on Instagram all day."

The problem isn't the millenials It is is my weak generation of adults who are allowing the young to get away with their weak attitudes.
