Something tells me Kalani would rather he not release a letter. Having someone

come to your defense without alignment on the details oftentimes is a really bad idea. People will assume these are Kalani's thoughts and feelings and they might not match what DS is putting on paper. If I'm Kalani, I would strongly encourage him to not release his letter.
