there is nothing blocking your view. You could see Geneva Steel from any part of Utah County, junk yards, crappy looking buildings galore. Not that those buildings don't exist elsewhere. Its that they aren't hidden, at all, by trees. Granted, I live in an area of the country that Euclidian Zoning is a novelty, even so, a lot of the unpleasant views are blocked by trees.
For the ugly that is available, Utah also has majestic mountain views everywhere. Almost every night in the summer has a spectacular sunset. And if you enjoy outdoor activities, there is simply no better place to live.
Also, I agree with TCuz about the awkwardness of having so many Mormons around you.
