Tonto 3rd String
10 days in on Whole 30, thought I'd give my thoughts in case anyone is
considering doing it.

I'm in my early 40's and as I've gotten older, I've had digestive problems with certain foods I eat, especially the past few years. I have an idea of what foods are causing it but I'm not certain and finally decided to do something about it. With Whole 30 the idea is to eliminate dairy, grains, legumes, added sugar, processed goods, etc. You eat unprocessed meat, seafood, vegetables, fruit, and nuts. It's very restrictive, any cheats on purpose or accidental you have to start over. After 30 days you slowly integrate certain foods back into your diet and see how your body reacts and then eliminate those that are causing issues.

Dinners have been the easiest for me. I'm hungry a lot earlier so most everything usually tastes good. Breakfasts are pretty limited. I used to just have a protein bar and a piece of fruit, I can't have protein bars and miss those. Eggs are a staple and I'm getting tired of those, lately I just have a banana and almond butter. Lunches I have leftovers from dinner or a salad. I've never been huge on leftovers so that has been a struggle as well and my lunches tend to be very light with some cashews and pistachios as a snack.

It takes a lot of meal planning and prep. You have to read every label for added sugar or one of it's 100 other names they use in place of it. I did find some bacon and sausage that is approved so that's a win. I don't love uncooked vegetables(carrots, celery, peppers, etc) so I fail in that area a lot and probably should be eating more vegetables and less fruit. It takes a lot of work to eat healthy already and with Whole 30, pretty much every restaurant is off limits or very restricted so that is a big challenge.

Day 2 and Day 8 for some reason were the hardest so far. I almost quit both of those days. The positive is I've had no headaches besides hunger headaches which is rare for me. My stomach has felt good, although I felt some bloating and cramping day 8, then read that was normal.

You aren't supposed to weigh yourself because it's not a diet or about weight loss, but I did this morning. I am 6'2 and weighed 213 the morning I started, I was 201 this morning. I think that is more than weight loss than most people see, I'm probably not eating enough.
