We hear all the time how they are not a legend unless they stay and play the 4 or 5 years of eligibility. I don’t ever recall someone putting that benchmark of becoming a legend, at the point of, Did they receive their diploma and graduate or not?

Point being college sports have almost nothing to do with college/education other than being a hoop to jump through to remain eligible to play.
