that years ago it was understated and the NFL especially was trying to sweep the problem under the rug. Just like so many other things we've swung the other way while other sports like soccer and lacrosse are being largely ignored by the public. There are plenty of activities we do that can be dangerous (especially with youth) but that's just part of growing up.
I totally get the argument that we shouldn't be footing the bill as tax payers (I'm largely libertarian), but at the same time we have the best college system in the world by a large margin. Our sports system must not be that big of a net negative. I think diversions and well rounded students are underrated especially by pure academics.
