happen. That's dangerous thinking, and what many people hate about college sports. It's how Lori Loughlin will end up in jail. It's how college athletes get paid under the table. It's how sham academic programs are created at blue blood institutions to funnel athletes through. It's how study helpers for athletes end up cheating the athletes through school. It's bad thinking.
Actually, the most important thing at a university is providing an education for students. That's sort of the whole mission statement. Sports, as much as I love them, are still just extracurricular, and it's important to keep it all in perspective. Realize that if BYU stops emphasizing students first, the Church will just pull the plug on BYU because that's why BYU exists.
Now, I'm not saying that there can't sometimes be special circumstances for academic programs to take under consideration. But it shouldn't be sports automatically trumping academics. There are still processes to go through, and integrity to uphold.
