It was a labrum repair. Zach injured it in high school, and he played all last
year with it torn. That's not unusual. Eventually pitchers and QBs will want to get their labrums fixed, but many athletes will play for extended periods of time without the surgery because it doesn't significantly impact performance beyond loss of throwing velocity.
