Having the backup quarterback prepared for the season in case the starter (coming off of surgery) is physically not ready is a brilliant tactical move. Top-level analysis, bro.

I'll piggy back on your ingenuity and state that I think all second stringers should prepare for the season, in case anything happens to the starters. BOOM! It's contagious.
