Your dad's business probably taught you some good lessons about owning
your own business, and I can relate to some of them, but there are ways to make many of those a non issue. It's easy to get a home loan being self employed, and in my business right now I don't experience the ups and downs in income quite as much based on my business model (subscription).

I'm happy to plan for my own "Retirement".

I've done retail and didn't like it at all...

The biggest issue for me is health insurance options suck now since Obamacare went into effect.

I do think it takes a certain personality type to own and run a business. Most people aren't cut out for it. The people who are, were born for it.
