Your sentiment and perspective may have been valid 50+ years ago
but the reality is that this dream of travel has been going on for longer than your or my lifetime. Perspective and patience has evolved along with air travel over the past century.
When folks pay top dollar (OP mentioned that they were in a Comfort+ seat) for a ticket there is usually an expectation for level of comfort.
That level of comfort usually does not involve being smothered by an XXL adult male for several hours.
