I lived there for a summer. Not the biggest fan.
Very hard to live a life with any sort of convenience IMO. Grocery shopping is an every day thing due to not having a car. Can only carry so much. Gotta get your clothes laundered because most places dont have space for washer dryer. Everything is VERY expensive. Noisy, hot in the summer cold in the winter, dirty.

If you like big cities, food, plays, and art then its the place for you. Again, be prepraed to pay for it.

Work-wise it is great. Some of the greatest minds and talents. Very diverse culture.

My experience might be different than yours (wall street) but expect long hours. IMO the stereotype that New Yorkers are rude is fact, not stereotype.
