I give prospective hires my last, best and final offer up front
I hate that negotiation process. If I ended up giving a higher salary later I feel like I was holding back. “Why did you make me grovel for it?” is what I’d be thinking if I was the hire. I often edit the offer letter multiple times, often bumping up the pay each time. Once I find myself thinking “ok, that’s it, no higher, even if they walk,” then I go with it. Take it or leave it.
