Just look at all the add-ons on your next car invoice and start asking questions
From my invoice at a LHM dealership in January:

VTR (vehicle theft registration): $299. I learned that this record your VIN in a database of some sort that will "assist" the police if your vehicle is stolen. Apparently they put some extra VIN stickers on the car too.

DrivePur: $199. This "sanitizes" your car before the dealership brings it out to you. What's more, you can apparently stop in every 6 months for 2 years and have your car re-sanitized. according to a friend of mine who worked at a dealership, the sanitizing consists of basically squirting febreze into the car. Question: why would a brand new car need to be sanitized in the first place?

There are more of these add-ons and they exist at every dealership. They generate hundreds of dollars in extra profit on every vehicle sale. They are pure profit to the dealership, and offer zero value to the customer. They get added on without telling the customer, and many customers think that they are mandatory because they include words like "registration" in the description. They are barely a half step above fraud in my view.
