What you are planning is beautiful but you will be in the car a long time. Hwy 1 is meant for an older couple with no where to be in a hurry. Another idea is to go up through Sequoia, Yosemite and Tahoe. The Sierra mountains are very impressive.

LA to Vegas, stay there for 5 days, Vegas to St George, St George to Beaver, Beaver to Provo, Provo to SLC
