Is she just at home and it's dying? Or is she someplace else and maybe the phone is struggling to connect?
Is it recent? Or a longstanding issue?

Wife's phone battery dying quick. She hasn't done system updates for a while. Would that actually help? She's convinced

Updates tend to be more efficient but don't always help

I imagine it will help. How old is the phone? These batteries only have a certain number of charge cycles in their life

3 years old. We can't access the battery ourselves on the S8 so I think would need to take it somewhere.

I suspect the battery life cycle is over. I'd take it to an authorized store for replacement. Start on Samsung's website
