I also think there is some value in pre-season evaluations. I think they could develop a more organized and empirically sound method for determining pre-season rankings and integrate that properly into the ranking system for use between week 1-4.
That said, this is the NCAA Football corporation we are talking about here. Nothing they do makes sense - see Mike Leach's speech on the ridiculousness of the NCAA Football playoff situation.
I enjoy the preseason. I do. I know its all speculation, and I know most of it is BS. However, some guys really have it down like a science. Phil Steele does a tremendous job and is getting better and better at his prediction methodologies. So I read it, and enjoy the speculation.
So yeah, Im like 75% agreeing with you here.
