It looks to me like there are only two major changes: 1) BYU isn't finishing ranked anymore, and 2) Utah and TCU are no longer G5 teams (so their ranked finishes no longer count). But as 2011, 2012, and 2018 clearly indicate, multiple MWC teams can still finish the season ranked. And Boise has consistently demonstrated that conference affiliation doesn't preclude a ranked finish.

• 2012: 4 (Utah State, Boise State, San Jose State, Northern Illinois)
• 2011: 4 (Boise State, TCU, Houston, Southern Miss) 
• 2010: 5 (TCU, Boise State, Nevada, UCF, Tulsa)
• 2009: 5 (Boise State, TCU, BYU, Utah, Central Michigan)
• 2008: 4 (Utah, TCU, Boise State, BYU)
• 2007: 2 (BYU, Hawaii)
• 2006: 3 (Boise State, BYU, TCU)
• 2005: 1 (TCU)
