RE: Two can twist facts...

"It also makes it so we aren't G5" That is the biggest bunch of male cow crap I've ever heard on here.

Okay, let's deal with "facts":

Fact: BYU does not belong to a P5 conference, therefore BYU is not P5, however...

Fact: All 4 P5 conferences with a P5 scheduling requirement consider BYU P5. (The PAC 12 has no P5 requirement, but given the "FACT" that we average 3 PAC 12 opponents per year for the next 5 years, I would say they have no problem with their schools playing BYU.)

Fact: BYU does not belong to a G5 conference, therefore BYU is not G5

I fail to see how I was "twisting the facts" on that one.  If anything, based on the "facts", we are closer to P5 than G5.

2. "if you think joining a conference is going to land us in NY6 bowls all the time"

I never said that, but at least BYU would have a chance. I compare BYU to UCF, which is better?

This is a weird one.  You imply that BYU has no chance of getting to a NY6 game without being in a G5 conference.  That is not true, becuase:

Fact: BYU, by winning enough games, has the ability to be ranked in the top 12, or even the top 10 or 8.

Not fact but backed by empirical evidence: An 11 win season with only 1 loss typically gets you ranked in the top 7, a 10 win season with only 2 losses typically gets you ranked in the top 12, and a 9 win season with 3 losses typically gets you ranked in the 10 to 16 range.

Fact: 83% of teams in the top 12 make it into a NY6 game.  96% of teams that fininsh in the top 10 make it into a NY6 game, and 100% of teams that finish in the top 8 make it into a NY6 game.

So, based on those "facts" BYU doesn't need to be in a G5 conference to make it into a NY6 game, it just needs to be ranked in the top 12 to have a an extremely good chance of making it, the top 10 to have a near guaranteed chance of making it, and to get ranked that high BYU needs to win 10 games against a decent schedule to have a really really good shot.  An 11 win season would virtually guarantee it.  (I might add, empirically, a 1 loss season also puts you in playoff discussion.)  So if you think BYU has no chance of getting to a NY6, you're basically saying, "BYU has no chance of winning 10 games as an independent."

3. "Just win" Is Just Stupid, ok...

You've provided no "facts" here that show it is stupid.  My "facts" and empirical evidence from point 2 show otherwise.  Win 10 games and you have a really good chance at a NY6 game, win 11 games and it's a near guarantee and also puts you in playoff discussion.  If anything you are the one twisting "facts" here.

4. Yes the ACC is better than the WCC, no debate. Just stop!

Fact: The ACC is a better conference than the WCC.

Fact: The ACC has never expressed interest in adding BYU.

Fact: The AAC is the conference in question.

Can you provide any "facts" to prove that the AAC without UConn is better than the WCC in sports not including football?  I'll stick with my statement that in some sports the WCC is better than the AAC while in others the AAC is better.

5. "If we go 12-0 against some of our future schedules" In mega years when was the last 12-0 season? You must play the lottery. You will probably be dead before 12-0. Maybe 10-2, AAC champs, and NY6 bowl would be more realistic. Just saying...

Fact:  No 10 win AAC team, even one that wins the conference, has ever played in a NY6 game, nor have they been ranked higher than #23.

Based on that fact, I don't see how that is better than Indy.  Remember the Miami Beach Bowl against Memphis?

Fact: Memphis was the AAC Co-champs that year, and the Miami Beach Bowl was the best they could do!

Basically, if you're saying 10 wins in the AAC is the best we can ever hope for, you're saying no matter what we will never have another shot at a top 20 ranking.  I like to be more optimistic.

That's all of your points, here are some more of my "facts":

Fact: No G5 team, and therefore no AAC team, has the ability to schedule more P5 opponenets that are nationally televised than BYU

Fact: No G5 team has as much control over it's strength of schuedule as BYU does.  UCF wanted to improve its SOS, it admitted it couldn't, BYU can.

Fact: ESPN values it's relationship with BYU as an independent and wants to continue it.

Fact: It is in ESPN's best interest to get BYU as many high profile home games (and away games against ESPN partners which ESPN can broadcast) as possible.

Fact: As time has gone on, the indy shcedules have improved, and are set to improve significantly.  This is a combination of ESPN influence and BYU being able to set high profile opponents well in advance.

Those are my "facts".  I'm not sure how you think I'm twisting them.  I'm sticking with my opinion that independence may not be the best option, but it's a lot better than G5.  BYU is a national brand.  Alumni live all over the country, much more so than alumni of most schools.  The fact that we can play a national schedule and always be on TV will always be better to me than 10 win MWC or AAC seasons.
