And Notre Dame finished that year 9-3 and ranked #16 nationally - which is fine, but nothing spectacular.
Obviously BYU got pounded in the two games after the Heisman announcement, so one could argue that Detmer didn't exactly deserve the trophy, but it's not like there was another particularly awesome candidate that year who got robbed.
