I think that’s kind of what you’re saying, and I’d have to generally agree. Teachers get a lot of time off. It’s a good job. The benefits are great. Overall, it’s peobably a “fair” wage for most of them.
But that’s a different question from what we, socially, should pay if we want to get the best results. We all know we’d be willing to pay more for better education - not just for our own kids, but also for all the kids who will someday become voters and neighbors.
I can’t help but think that if we paid a lot more, we’d get a better result. But maybe I’m wrong.
