And, as you should know, but apparently aren't aware, a slight bit of hyperbole is often used in colloquial communication to make a point. That doesn't render the statement false or dumb, especially since the hyperbole is actually not that great. The Trib is losing readership, in part, because they continue to poke at that largest fanbase in the state (as well as the largest religion in the state). Once again, the stereotype is there for a reason. The jokes about the Trib are funny BECAUSE there is truth behind them.
