I'm no college football ref, but you said "It looks like he got the ball on...

the pylon before any part of his body hit."  So what was the rule in 1984?  His body is cleary being hit by our LB, #49, before the ball crosses the plane of the goal line.

The replay shows his right foot is clearly in bounds, just barely, and (his foot is) on the 1 1/2 yard line.  But then he gets hits by #49 and you can no longer see his right foot.  His foot "probably" stays in bounds but we can't see it for sure.  If his right foot moved out of bounds then the play is over.  And with his foot on the 1 1/2 yard line his body is still relatively straight up, ie, when he gets hit the ball has not yet crossed the goal line plane.

I don't think it's conclusive at all in favor of Pitt but then again I don't know what the rule was for goal line/pylon/end of play determination in 1984.

Anyone?
