Easy. Football is a game of attrition. You swap out Tennessee or UW,
really good P5 or a really long road game, for a FCS win and you don't get worn down as much. Take UW off the schedule and put in Weber State, instead of a beat up BYU team going to Toledo, jumping out to a big lead then getting tired, you are fresh and blow Toledo out.
Swap out Tennessee and it is the same thing. You played two OT games the first three weeks then UW then a crazy road trip.
Football is too hard to schedule that way.
Alabama is a lot deeper than BYU and they won't schedule that way. Why would anyone thing that BYU could do it?
