Completely agree. Coaching will always play a part in performance.
I’m just not sure if BYU has had any chance at a special season with the number of quarterback injuries sustained, even if Saban was the coach here. There’s been absolutely no consistency. Detmer had his issues, but also had very little chance at success in 2017 having to work with four quarterbacks and three starters (I’m not sure he ever meant for his nephew to see the field).
If we could get two full seasons in a row from an upperclassman quarterback, I believe we would get something going and may see double-digit wins again. The QB depth chart is still good enough to win games. Just can’t keep cycling between guys like we have.
