Both go to the same principle: the government attacking speech they don't like.
The criticism of China started (deservedly) for leaning on the NBA to have Morley apologize. That's exactly like Trump leaning on the NFL to put in measures to prevent the protesters from protesting.
But you're right: people that waited until China stopped broadcasting games to criticize them aren't hypocrites. Everyone else that criticized them prior to that definitely are, unless they also criticized similar actions when they took place here.
