Except that was not the justification for going independent.
The MWC literally screwed us and expected we would just take it. We parted ways with them. ESPN sealed the deal with a lot more money than the MWC was offering. Independence has proven to be better than the MWC.
Ironically, BYU was grossly under appreciated as a critical member. We were not looking for a parade or even acknowledgement of the facts but to screw us after we had a clear verbal agreement that was working was bad form. And for those that will bring up that it should have been in writing don’t understand the details of the arrangement. When it was clear it needed to be in writing, the MWC side said no. We parted ways as a result. It was in their power to fix it and they did not wish to push it. They ended up with a garbage TV deal and BYU got a good deal.
